College Mourns Death of Emeritus Trustee Max Lauffer

WOOSTER, Ohio, Aug. 20, 2012 - The College notes with sadness the death of Max Lauffer, an emeritus trustee who served on Wooster's board from 1967 to 1987. He was 98. Lauffer had a distinguished, 40-year teaching career at the University of Pittsburgh, where he held the position of Andrew Mellon Professor of Biophysics.
Lauffer earned his bachelor's and master's degrees from Penn State and a doctorate from the University of Minnesota, all in biochemistry. He founded and chaired the biophysics department at Pitt, served as dean of the division of natural sciences, and established a virus research program.
