Also serves as director of the Wooster Chorus and Wooster Singers at The College of Wooster
WOOSTER, Ohio — Lisa Wong, director of the Wooster Chorus and the Wooster Singers at The College of Wooster, has been named director of The Cleveland Orchestra Youth Chorus. A member of Wooster’s faculty since 2009, Wong also serves as the assistant director of choruses with the Cleveland Orchestra, and she will continue in that capacity.
“We are absolutely delighted to welcome Lisa Wong as the Youth Chorus’s director,” said Cristina Rocca, The Cleveland Orchestra’s director of artistic planning, in a news release. “We look forward to (her) leading the group into a new era.”
Wong, who will also be in charge of a smaller, more select youth chamber chorus, has organized collaborations involving the Wooster Chorus and The Cleveland Orchestra Chorus in the past and hopes to continue doing so in the future. “I am very much looking forward to the increased involvement with the organization,” said Wong. “I am thrilled to have an opportunity to work with the youth chorus.”
Wong joined the choral staff of The Cleveland Orchestra prior to the 2010-11 season. Before her appointment at Wooster, she was as an associate instructor in the choral department of Indiana University’s Jacobs School of Music. She also directed the Chamber Choir of the Indiana University Children’s Choir. She earned her bachelor of science degree in music education at West Chester University and her master’s and doctoral degrees in choral conducting at Indiana University.
