College mourns the loss of emeritus trustee Ed Andrew ’61

Served on Wooster’s board for 26 years

WOOSTER, Ohio, March 9, 2013 – The College of Wooster mourns the loss of Edward J. Andrew ’61, an emeritus life member of the board of trustees, whose active board service spanned 26 years, from 1982 to 2008. Andrew died peacefully at his home in Naples, Florida, on Friday, March 8. He was 77.

Andrew attended Pomona College for two years, served in the U.S. Army Signal Corps from 1956 to 1958, and graduated from The College of Wooster with a bachelor’s degree in economics in 1961. He worked for Andrew Corporation, an international manufacturer of telecommunications equipment, for 30 years, retiring as chairman in 1993. 

As a member of Wooster’s board of trustees, Andrew served on the college advancement, enrollment and marketing strategy, finance, investment, and student development committees. He also served on the national steering committees for three major capital campaigns: the Campaign for Wooster in the eighties, the Campaign for the Nineties, and the Independent Minds campaign. The E. and E. Andrew Turf Field at Papp Stadium is named in honor of Ed and Edie, his wife of almost 56 years.

In addition to his wife, Andrew is survived by their five children and 14 grandchildren, and by his sister. 

A celebration of Andrew’s life will be held on Sunday, April 14, 2013, at 11 a.m. at Dinolfo’s Banquets, 14447 W. 159th Street, Homer Glen, Ill. Visitation with the family will follow. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The College of Wooster, 1189 Beall Ave., Wooster, Ohio 44691.
