Senior music composition major Frederick Evans will have his work “Early Winter” performed by the professional contemporary dance company Verb Ballets this weekend in Cleveland.

WOOSTER, Ohio — Frederick Evans, a senior music composition major at The College of Wooster, has been selected for three choreographed public performances of his work “Early Winter” by the professional contemporary dance company Verb Ballets in Cleveland.

Evans’ composition, for fixed electronics, will be danced by Verb on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday (March 21-23) at 7 p.m. at the Cleveland Public Theatre on 6415 Detroit Avenue in Cleveland. The work will be part of a program titled, “Verb Goes Electric with Cleveland Chamber Symphony.”

A resident of Clinton, N.Y., Evans composed “Early Winter” under the supervision of Peter Mowrey, professor of music at Wooster. Verb Ballets’ presentations of the work follow Evans’ recent well-received performance by the Wooster Symphony Orchestra, under conductor Jeffrey Lindberg, of “Thanatopsis,” composed as part of Evans’ Senior Independent Study in Composition.

Evans studies electronic composition with Mowrey, acoustic composition with Jack Gallagher, and upright and electric bass with adjunct music faculty member Jack Steward. A member of the Wooster Symphony Orchestra, the Wooster Jazz Combo, and the Wooster Singers, Evans, who plans to continue composition studies through graduate school and to teach at the college level, has had works performed by The Wooster Chorus under Lisa Wong, by Peter Mowrey, by cellist Aimon Dwan, and by the Wooster Jazz Combo. Last June, he was named the winner of the 2012 National Federation of Music Clubs Young Composers Award for his “Fractured Recollections: A Daydream Interrupted,” for string quartet.

Tickets for the Verb Ballets performances are $10 for the March 21 program and $25 for March 22 and 23 and may be purchased from the Cleveland Public Theatre Box Office at 216-631-2727 (ext. 501). More information may be found online.
