Wooster Symphony Announces 101st Season
The Wooster Symphony Orchestra has announced its 2016-17 season lineup and the beginning of its second century of music.
The season kicks off with a Black and Gold Weekend concert, celebrating The College of Wooster’s combined homecoming and parents’ weekend, Sat., Sept.17, 7:30 p.m., McGaw Chapel, 340 E. University St. A tribute to the late jazz legend Sarah Vaughan, the concert features the voices of René Marie, Dee Alexander, and Ann Hampton Callaway, and the combined forces of the Cleveland Jazz Orchestra and Wooster Symphony Orchestra.
The fall concert, featuring Gershwin’s Piano Concerto and Beethoven Symphony No. 1, will be presented at Gault Recital Hall, Fri., Nov. 11, 7:30 p.m. and Sat., Nov. 12, 7:30.
The winter concert features trumpeter Eric Knorr, son of the late Frank Knorr, performing the Arutunian Trumpet Concerto on Fri., Feb. 17, 7:30 p.m. and Sun., Feb. 19, 4:00 p.m., at Gault Recital Hall.
The season concludes with a commencement concert, Sun., May 14, 7:30 p.m. at McGaw Chapel. A collaboration between the Wooster Symphony Orchestra and The Ohio Light Opera, the concert features music from West Side Story.
