Your First Day on the Job
Your First Day on the Job
- Complete your state and federal paperwork.*
As a College of Wooster employee, you are required to complete state and federal tax forms before you start your job. You will need to present the proper forms of identification to complete the Employment Eligibility I-9. You must present the original documents, we can accept notarized copies if they have the notary seal and signature. We cannot accept a faxed copy.
- Sign up for Direct Deposit.*
The College of Wooster uses a mandatory Direct Deposit system for all employees. Every two weeks pay is automatically deposited into the bank account of your choice and a pay stub is mailed to you. A voided check or a deposit slip is needed to complete this form. (ATM/Debit cards are not accepted for this form.)
- Review your new department's policies.
Make sure you read and have a good understanding of your hiring department's policies. Discuss responsibilities, dress code, attendance, what to do if you will be late, etc. with your supervisor before you begin work.
- Review your schedule.
Look over your scheduled work hours with your supervisor and make sure you both agree and understand when and for how many hours you will be working. Also, make sure you have room in your academic schedule to work the required amount of hours. Poor time management on your part will negatively affect your success in class and at work.
- Ask questions.
As with all other steps to on-campus employment, do not hesitate to ask questions! Contact your new supervisor or the Student Employment Office regarding any questions about your new position.
*This paperwork must be completed at the Student Employment Office and must be done prior to the first day on the job.
