Requirements
for a Major in Philosophy
To major in philosophy, one must take:
- Historical Foundations (two courses): 250
and 251.
- Continental Philosophy (one course): 260,
262, or 264.
- Analytic Philosophy (one course): 302, 303,
or 304.
- Ethical Theory: 311.
- Two additional philosophy electives.
- Junior Independent Study: 401.
- Senior Independent Study: 451 and 452.
Requirements
for a Minor in Philosophy
Many students have found a minor in philosophy
to be a valuable supplement to other majors
in the natural and social sciences and other
humanities departments. The minor requires:
- Historical Foundations (one course): 250
or 251.
- 300 level (one course): 302, 303, 304, 310,
311, or 312.
- Philosophy electives (four courses).
