Jeffrey Lantis is Professor of Political Science at The College
of Wooster, where he has taught since 1994. His research focuses on international
relations, with a specialization in foreign policy analysis and international
security. He teaches courses including United States Foreign Policy, Introduction
to International Relations, Comparative Foreign Policy, International Security,
and International Relations on Film.
Lantis has significant field research experience in international politics. He received a J. William Fulbright Senior Scholarship for research in Australia in 2007, where he served as Visiting Scholar in the Department of International Relations at the Research School of Pacific and Asian Studies at The Australian National University in Canberra and the School of Social Sciences and International Studies at the University of New South Wales in Sydney. In 2002, Lantis served as Visiting Scholar at the Norman Paterson School of International Affairs at Carleton University, in Ottawa, Canada, in the fall 2002. He was also a Visiting Researcher at the German Council on Foreign Relations, in Bonn, Germany, during several visits from 1996 to 2000, and he has participated in study tours throughout Western Europe.
Lantis has published books including: The Life and Death of International Treaties: Double-Edged Diplomacy and the Politics of Ratification in Comparative Perspective (forthcoming 2008); Strategic Dilemmas and
the Evolution of German Foreign Policy Since Unification (2002); Foreign
Policy in Comparative Perspective: Domestic and International Influences on
State Behavior, Editor (2001); and Domestic Constraints and the Breakdown
of International Agreements (1997). He is also author of numerous articles and book chapters
on United States foreign policy, nuclear proliferation, transatlantic
security, and strategic culture.
As past President of the Active Learning in International Affairs (ALIAS) Section of the International Studies Association (2003-2004), Lantis has designed and led workshops on innovative teaching. Lantis was also lead editor for The New International Studies Classroom: Active Teaching, Active Learning (2000). Professional service to The College of Wooster has included a three-year term as Chair of the Department of Political Science and six years as Chair of the International Relations Program. Lantis received his M.A. and Ph.D. in Political Science from The Ohio State University, and his B.A. in International Politics from Bethany College.
