Important Dates and Deadlines The Application Sequence
The actual application for medical, dental, and
veterinary schools is sent at the end of the junior year, but students should
begin preparing for the application process early in the spring semester of
their junior year. The following is a brief itinerary of the application
process: January: Applicants should begin constructing a well-written, thorough résumé early in the spring semester of their junior year. The Career Services Office is an excellent source of advice, and should be consulted when writing a résumé. The professors you ask for recommendations will use the résumé to help them in composing your letter. At this time you should also begin thinking of which professors you will ask for letters of recommendation.
February-March Obtain the initial universal application by visiting the website of either AMCAS, AADSAS, or AAVMS, all of which are listed on the cover of this document. The electronic form of these applications are easily downloaded from the website.
March-May: Complete the initial universal
application and request your letters of recommendation from faculty. To assist
the professors in writing your letter, it is recommended that students provide
each professor with an "Information Sheet for Letters of Recommendation." These
forms are available from the Pre-Health Advising Committee, and require the
following information:
June: Authorize the appropriate application service to submit your completed universal application to the professional schools you have selected. You should notify the Pre-Health Advising Program of the schools to which you have applied, to help in tracking the success of Wooster's pre-health students.
The application service will send you a confirmation notice once the application has been processed and sent to the schools that you designated. If you do not hear from the application service in a timely manner, do not hesitate to contact them to make sure that no part of your application was misplaced or not received.
August –October of Senior Year If you sent your initial universal application early in June, you should begin to receive secondary applications from the designated schools in August. It is strongly recommended that you complete the secondaries before you begin class in August of your senior year.
September-March of Senior Year After the secondary applications are reviewed, applicants are invited on campus for an interview. The schools send letters of acceptance and wait-list announcements after the interview. Admission into medical, dental, and veterinary schools is based on a rolling admission, so the earlier you send in your applications, the more times your application will be reviewed.
