Course Requirements of Medical, Dental, and Veterinary Schools.

It is not necessary that you major in a science in order to get into medical, dental, or veterinary schools.  However, the majority of medical, dental, and veterinary schools require a core of science classes that include:

·        2 semesters of General Bio.

·        2 semesters of General Chem.

·        2 semesters of Organic Chem.

·        2 semesters of Physics

·        1 semester of Mathematics

·        These schools often require 2 semesters of English/Writing, and FYS can be considered 1 semester.

Many veterinary schools additionally require 1 semester of microbiology.  Each medical, dental, or veterinary school may have additional science and humanity course requirements not specified above.  The specific course requirements for each school should be consulted  either by contacting the school directly, or by visiting their web site.  It should be noted that although the course requirements for a school need not be fulfilled at the time of application, they will need to be completed before matriculation.

Most medical, dental, and veterinary schools require a minimum of 3 years of undergraduate work.  However, most successful applicants have spent 4 years in college and earned a bachelor’s degree.
