The Program in Writing at the College of Wooster is designed to help students develop skills that will prove advantageous no matter which discipline they eventually enter and which career they ultimately choose. In the Program, students will improve their writing skills as well as develop their ability to construct cohesive arguments, effectively gather evidence, and analyze difficult concepts--all skills that will allow them to become better students and more mature scholars. The Program in Writing is founded under several assumptions:

  • that language is central to thinking and learning in all disciplines,
  • that writing is a complex intellectual process, and
  • that students must learn to write the discourse of their area of academic concentration

and your ability to guide students to an understanding of these concepts is crucial to their success in any discipline.

The Program in Writing has several components, each of which is explained in further detail in the follwing links.
