One of the most distinctive features of the curriculum at the College of Wooster is its writing component. The Program in Writing is founded under several assumptions:

  • that language is central to thinking and learning in all disciplines,
  • that writing is a complex intellectual process, and
  • that students must learn to write the discourse of their area of academic concentration.

The Program is designed to help students improve their writing skills, but also their ability to construct cohesive arguments, effectively gather evidence, and analyze difficult concepts, skills that will ultimately allow them to become better students and more mature, engaged scholars. Thus, regardless of which discipline your child chooses and which career s/he will ultimately enter, the Program in Writing will provide your child with the sorts knowledge and skills that will prove incredibly advantageous in his/her future.

The Program in Writing has several components, each of which is designed to help your son or daughter achieve these goals.
