The Writing Advisory Board's primary function is to assist the Director of Writing in the implementation and administration of the Program in Writing. The Board serves as a resource and as a conduit of information for all faculty involved in the Program in Writing and serves as the EPC subcommittee in assisting with "W" course proposal review.
The Board's responsibilities are as follows:
- to provide consistent advice to departments and programs regarding the development and maintenance of "W" courses and other writing courses within the purview of the Program,
- to design and implement the Wooster Writing Fellows Program,
- to provide resources for departments and programs in order to create and instruct "W" courses--such resources include but are not limited to workshops on writing education, sample syllabi, and articles on writing across the curriculum and within the disciplines,
- to review "W" course proposals and to recommend such proposals to the Educational Policy Committee,
- to recommend strategies for assessing the effectiveness of the Program in Writing to the ad hoc committee on assessment,
- to coordinate communication between and among the Writing Center, the Learning Center, the College Writing Tutorial staff, and the faculty, and
- to arrange opportunities for faculty participating in the Program in Writing (particularly those teaching "W" courses) to engage in an on-going discussion of such courses.
