For those of you that need extra help in improving your lowest score, you could probably also use some general help on study strategies and test taking tips. So, this assignment involves increasing your knowledge on this subject to help you in this course and hopefully many others.

You will need to read about study strategies and/or test taking strategies and then write a 1.5 to 2 page type-written summary and response that discusses the strategies you reviewed and how they are different from your current approach. I would like you to think about practical ways that you could change your study and/or test taking strategies to better match the theories you reviewed, and to include those strategies in your response (things you will actually do in the future).

The point of this assignment is to help you increase your scores across the board, and to improve your study strategies, so do not make up strategies that you think I want to hear, include things that you will ACTUALLY use. This assignment must be turned in when you come to take your final exam. You can complete this extra credit opportunity in one of several ways:

Go to the Learning Center (x2595) and use their resources. Pam Rose is willing to make an appointment with some of you to discuss study and test-taking strategies, and it would be in your best interest to meet with her in small groups if this option is of interest to you.

St. Thomas University. There are a ton of links on this page, focus on the ones involving Test Preparation, Taking the Test, or Classroom Participation. Read at least 2 of the lists of suggestions in any one of these sections and complete the written assignment outlined in the first paragraph of this assignment. Please include the web address on your assignment.

Virginia Tech. Again lots of links, the Study Skills Inventory is a good objective measurement of your current habits. But you can read any one you find interesting and then complete the assignment outlined in the first paragraph of this assignment. Please include the web address on your assignment.

Links to a Better Education. This site links you to other education sites all over the place. Choose a link or two under the Study Skills, Test Preparation, Taking Tests or Note-Taking sections. Once you have read over the information provided in the links you choose, complete the written assignment outlined in the first paragraph of this assignment. Re-read pages 27-28 in your textbook, which covers the SQ3R study method. Then compare this method to the way in which you actually study and discuss feasible methods (things you will actually do in the future) that you can use to change your study techniques to more closely match the SQ3R.
