The
College of Wooster
Department of Psychology
PSYC340:
Neurobiology of Learning and Memory
Professor Amy Jo Stavnezer
Course Description:
The main objective of this course is to introduce you
to the neurological underpinnings of learning and memory.
Through the use of a textbook for informative background material
and lots of scientific journal articles, we will cover topics that include
the brain regions and cellular processes involved in short-term and long-term
memory formation. We will
spend time exploring disorders of memory such as amnesia, Alzheimer’s
disease and savant syndrome. We
will discuss the techniques scientists use to explore the neurobiology
of learning and memory in drosophila (flies), aplysia (sea slugs), rodents
and humans. I hope that this class will be enjoyable
while provoking thoughtful discussion and debate. We will work to develop
critical thinking and writing skills throughout our discussions and assignments.
