Jr. I.S. Program in Psychology

PSYCHOLOGY 401
The Junior I.S. is a transitional course which combines aspects of a seminar and tutorial and has as its primary assignment the completion of an acceptable and feasible proposal for independent study research. This proposal will include a literature review, a procedural protocol, all relevant ethical review materials, and a plan for statistical analysis. The goal of this course is to expose students to techniques and skills they will need to possess for senior independent study and consequently it must be completed before the Senior I.S. Thesis is begun. Normally 401 is graded A through F. A grade of C- or higher must be obtained in order to receive credit toward the major.

PSYCHOLOGY 402 AND 403 In addition to the required Psychology 401 described above, a student may choose to take up to two additional I.S. credits (e.g., 402, 403). These options could include conducting a small scale (mini) research project, completing an off-campus field experience, or some other academic project which has been approved by the Chair of the Department. Details can be found in Section III of this handbook. Neither 402 nor 403 can be used to replace the requirement for a passing grade in Psychology 401.
