The Psychology Major
Following is a description of the courses in the major program:
Psych 100: Introduction to the Principles of Behavioral Science
Psych 100 is the first course in the Psychology major and is acts as prerequisite
for all 200 level courses in Psychology .Psych
110 (childhood and adolescence) and 111 (maturity and old age) have
no prerequisites and can be taken by any student. However, neither 111
nor 110 count toward a psychology major. 110 is required for the Education
track, though.
Two MINI-LAB courses are required. The Mini-labs are:

STATISTICS
(299) is required for all courses that follow and must be taken
before the second mini-lab course above. It can be taken immediately. Because
you must take Psych 299 and receive a grade of C- or higher before you
may take any 300 level course, it is recommended that Psychology 299 be
taken as early as possible in the development of a psychology major.
Note: One 300 level course may be taken in place of one mini-lab
requirement.

One other 300-level course is also required. It may be any course from
A or B above or:

Also required are:
401-Jr. Independent Study (one semester) followed by
451-452 Sr. Independent Study (two semesters)
In order to register for 451, you must have taken at least one 300 level
lab course and Jr. Independent study with grades no lower than C-
In the fall of their senior year majors must take
History & Systems of Behavior Studies (405)
The Psychology Department expects that majors will take a two-semester
sequence of a laboratory course in either Biology or Chemistry and at least
one course in Mathematics.
