Research Opportunities
Research Opportunities
The mentoring relationship between student and faculty adviser is at the heart of I.S., but at Wooster you don't have to wait until senior year to experience that sort of close, one-on-one engagement with your professors.
Each year, the College provides opportunities for more than 100 students to work with faculty on research projects in biology, physics, chemistry, business economics, mathematics, and other fields. You can take advantage of these opportunities — many of them paid — as early as the second semester of your first year.
Wooster faculty thrive on their interaction with students. They want involve you in their research — and watch you mature as a scholar with original research ideas of your own.
Publish with a faculty co-author
Every year, dozens of Wooster students make presentations on their research at academic conferences or co-publish papers with members of the faculty. Geology professor Mark Wilson alone has published articles with more than 40 student co-authors.
Celebrate your achievements
In the spring, the campus comes together for the Senior Research Symposium, a day-long celebration of students' intellectual and creative achievements.
Classes are canceled and seniors display and discuss the results of their Independent Study projects in multiple locations across campus, in an event that draws students, faculty, staff, and members of the local community. With local restaurants providing food at each location, it’s more than just a feast for the mind.
