Our Official Charter

The Name:  The name of our organization shall be ‘A Round of Monkeys’

The Purpose:  Our purpose is to provide the campus with innovative and unique performances of ‘a cappella’ music for mixed voices (both men and women).  Although we place a high priority on the quality of our performances, the enjoyment of expressing ourselves through music is our primary motivation.  We shall perform a minimum of two times per semester, unless presented with extenuating circumstances.  Said performances would be open to attendance not only by members of the College of Wooster, but also to anyone of outside affiliation who would desire to come.  We also intend to perform off campus, if ever the opportunity to do so arises. In an effort to accomplish our goals, we shall abide by the code of Social Responsibility, as stated in the Scots Key.

Membership:  Membership shall be extended to any member of the college community, regardless of age, sex, race, gender, creed, national origin, handicap, sexual orientation, political affiliation, economic status or the ability to pay dues, provided that the individual expresses a genuine interest.  There will be no membership dues.  The different levels of membership shall be President, Prime Minister, Vice President, Secretary, Treasurer/Librarian and Historian.  The rest of the members shall be singers.  Officers need not be singers, though a reasonable amount of knowledge about singing and vocal music is expected.  There shall be a minimum of twelve (12) singing members in the group at all times.

New Member Process:  Tryout processes will be held as necessary to obtain new members.  When we have all twelve (12) singing members, no auditions need be held.  Membership will be granted based on the following criteria:

1)  The ability to adequately sing at least one voice part (e.g. - soprano, alto, tenor or bass).

2)  The willingness to be flexible about singing several different voice parts, including solo material and extended vocal techniques, such as vocal percussion.

3) The enthusiasm and drive to be a dedicated member, who will be diligent about rehearsal attendance, and accepting of our eclectic ways.

Officers:  All officers shall be degree-seeking students at the College of Wooster.  The following six positions shall exist:  President, Prime Minister, Vice President, Secretary, Treasurer/Librarian and Historian.  The President shall be in charge of coordinating performances and events, as well as procuring a rehearsal space.  The President will also serve as the contact person, and therefore serve as the general liason to both other students, the COW A Cappella Council (COWACC), and staff members at the College of Wooster.  The Prime Minister shall be responsible for teaching arrangements to the group, though the arranger is reserved the right to run rehearsal on their own arrangements.  The Prime Minister shall also play the piano during vocal warm-ups.  The Vice President shall be in charge of publicity and advertisement for upcoming concerts and events.  The Secretary shall be in charge of reminding members about rehearsals (via e-mail), keeping track of attendance and calling members who are late to a rehearsal.  The Treasurer shall be responsible for preparing the budget each spring, in addition, they are to take care of any other monetary needs for the group.  Finally, the Historian/Librarian shall be in charge of ensuring that performances are recorded, and informing emeritus members of current events.  They are also responsible for distributing sheet music to the group members, in addition, they are to maintain the music library.

Advisor:  The role of the advisor is to assist the organization by answering any questions that they may have pertaining to the College of Wooster’s policies, and to abide by expectations negotiated upon before signing the advisor contract. Our advisor will be a member of the College administrative staff, faculty, or another staff member who has received the approval of his/her supervisor.  Their responsibilities are outlined in the Advisor Contract and those agreed upon by the advisor and our organization according to the recommended responsibilities listed in the Advisor Contract.
