The Safety & Security Department is organized to
provide law enforcement response, crime prevention education, and
security services to the campus community on a 24 hours a day, 7 days a
week, 365 days a year basis. The Department also works closely with the
Wooster Police Department, Wooster Fire Department and other College
offices to provide such services and resources to the Wooster
community. The office is located on the corner of Beall Ave. and Wayne
Ave. and is staffed 24 hours a day, by a full-time staff of
professional dispatchers.
The College Safety & Security Department is comprised of a
patrol force of seven full-time officers and more than 20 student
officers. These officers have primary responsibility for all law
enforcement efforts on the College campus. Many of our Officers have
completed the Ohio Peace Officer training. Once hired by the College,
they must complete a minimum of 120 hours of training on particular
issues related to being a Security Officer on the College of Wooster
campus.
The Safety & Security Office is also complemented by student
workers who are employed as Student Patrol Officers. These students
work in conjunction with the full-time Officers to carry out a
pro-active philosophy of high visibility and reduction of the
opportunity for crime. These students provide visible patrol, acting as
eyes and ears for Security. They serve as walking escorts, monitor
building security, conduct building walks, and other crime prevention
programs. They will also make checks of emergency equipment, e.g.
emergency phones and fire extinguishers.
The personnel of the Safety & Security Office strive to serve the
College of Wooster Community and welcome students, staff, faculty and
visitors at any time.
