Psychology of Discovery and Invention.
He has written a lot about the creative personality
and the social context of creativity. I
think for your purposes, you might want to learn something
about the concept of flow and then his thoughts about ways
to enhance creativity. Try chapters 5 and 14 – ST.

This essay, written by a pioneer in composition pedagogy
and first published in 1973, is still one of the most astute
and reader-friendly explorations of critical and creative
thinking available -- NG

I suggest reading the following chapters:
Chapter 3: “Psychometric approaches to the study
of human creativity” by Plucker and Renzulli
Chapter 10: “Creative Cognition” by
Ward, Smith and Finke (this is a good overview of how the
mind works and different forms of creativity)
Chapter 15: “Motivation and Creativity” by
Collins and Amabile (Teresa Amabile has spent her life
showing that creativity must be internally motivated and
that external motivation – like grades or money—actually
hinder the creative process).
Chapter 20: “Enhancing Creativity” by
Nickerson – ST.
The introductory chapters on the history of creativity
research are very good too – NG.
