Setting Up Printers - Mac OS X

This document explains how to install public multi-function printing devices available in the Wired Scot, either of the Libraries, and the Computer Lab in Taylor 205 on Macintosh computers. This document also covers the color laser printers located in Kauke, Mateer, Morgan, the PEC, Scovel, Severance, Taylor, Timken Science Library, and the Wired Scot.

Introduction

In order to print to the printers and copiers on campus, it is necessary to install both the proper drivers for the printer and the pop-up client. This documentation is designed to guide users on campus through these steps in the most convenient way possible.

Installing the Drivers
  1. Navigate to Software Downloads & Documentation and choose the Printer Driver download for MacOS X.
  2. Once you have completed the download, run the installer to add the necessary printer drivers.
Installing the Client
  1. Go to Software Downloads & Documentation to download the pop-up client for MacOS X.
  2. Open the file you have downloaded, it should be on the desktop, and run the Popup.pkg installer by double clicking on it.
  3. Click the continue button through the install screens. Then click upgrade (or install).
  4. You will be presented with the following screen during this process:

  6. Make sure the Server Address is pharos1.wooster.edu and click Continue.
  7. When it is finished installing, click Close to exit the installer.
Installing a Printer
  1. Open the Printer Setup Utility, which is located in Macintosh HD - Applications - Utilities - Printer Setup Utility.
  2. Hold down the "alt option" key and click the button marked "More Printers…"
  3. Select "Advanced" from the drop down menu at the top of the window.
  4. The Device should be Pharos Print Server
  5. The Device Name will depend on the printer it could be any of the following: Andrews_Queue, Taylor_Queue, Timken_Queue, Wired-Scot_Queue, etc.
  6. The Device URI will also depend on the printer, but will follow the form "popup://pharos3.wooster.edu/Taylor_Queue"
  7. You will also need to choose the brand of printer and the specific model. Then click Add.

  9. For color printing the queues are:

    If you are a student you should use the student queue, if you are a staff of faculty person you should use the staff queue. If you do not use the proper queue you will not be able to print.
  10. Follow the same steps outlined above. When you get to the advanced window it should look like this: (of course the queue may be different)

  12. The next time you print to the printer you will be asked for your Novell username and password.

  14. From now on, you will have to go to the printer, swipe your card at the print release station, and release your job before it is actually printed.

    ***NOTE FOR FACULTY & STAFF: You will not need to swipe your card at a print release station to release the print job. Instead another window will appear once you enter you username and password.
