What is a rule?

When you receive an email, it is often more efficient to have your email client do some of the management for you. Rules are statements applied to emails based on a series of criteria specified by the user to help manage email.

Creating folders

NOTE: If the rule you wish to create involves moving mail directly to subfolders, you must create the folder first. To do so, click the Manage Folders button and in the new window that opens, make sure you are on the Add Folder tab.

Enter a name for the folder, select a position for the folder, and click the Add Folder button at the bottom of the screen.

Setting up a rule
  • To create a rule in ScotMail, click the Options link in the upper right hand corner of the screen. In the Options window that opens, make sure you are on the Rules tab.
  • Choose the type of rule you would like to create. You can choose from the following:
Delete - a rule that moves messages directly to the trash can.
Forward - a rule that allows you to forward messages from your Wooster account to another e-mail address.
Move to Folder - a rule that will move messages to a specific folder in your inbox.
Reply - a rule that will automatically reply to a message.
Vacation - a rule created when you will be unable to check email for an extended period of time (typically more than a day).
  • Click the Create button to define the terms of your rule.
  • Next you need to give the rule a name. The system will not save the rule without a name and it helps keep your rules managed.
  • Once you define the terms of your rule, click save. You can now close the Options window.
