Overview
Novell offers several ways to access files stored on the servers. Native File Access allows users to connect to file space without installing a client. Information Technology documentation is available online at http://www.wooster.edu/technology/help/. Last revised: February 26, 2008 |
| What is Native File Access? |
Native file access is a way to securely access files stored on our servers without the installation of a client. It is available on campus and off campus through the VPN connection (see Using the Wooster VPN Mac or Windows documentation for directions). |
| What can I access with NFA? |
Files stored on Studata, Facdata or Stafdata are available using NFA. Files on HowardL, Woo_Serv_Admin or the web server are not currently enabled but the files are being moved to the servers that are available. |
| How do I use NFA from a Macintosh? |
To access servers through NFA, in your menu bar select Go and choose Connect To Server. Enter the server where your files are stored and click Connect. The choices are:
Next, you will be asked to enter your user name and password (the “Workgroup/Domain” field is irrelevant). NOTE: the name that defaults in the box MAY NOT be your user name. Be sure to enter everything before the @ symbol in your email address.
You will now see the volume appear on your desktop:
Once you are finished, you can disconnect the volume by dragging the icon down to the trash can, which turns into an eject symbol:

| Creating a short cut on a Macintosh |
Once you have set this up the first time, you can create a short cut on your desktop to bypass these steps in the future. Click once on your folder and while holding down the Apple and Option keys, drag the folder to your desktop. Going forward, you will be prompted for a user name and password when you attempt to open your short cut. |
| How do I access NFA from a PC? |
From Windows, you can access Native File Access by going to Start, Run and enter the following as appropriate to where your files are stored:
Click OK and you will be prompted to authenticate using your user name and password. The system will locate the server and open a window with those folders you may access. In the future, you can choose Start, Run and click the drop down arrow to select the server. To disconnect, you can log out of the computer. |
