Description
This is a project which was initiated by Simon Gray in the Mathematics and Computer Science Department. The idea is to create annotated video captures of on screen actions displaying the process used in solving a problem. In Simon's case this involves capturing the process of using an Integrated Development Environment (IDE) to write and debug a programming problem.
Technology used
The application used to accomplish the process screen capture is a free program entitled Windows Media Encoder available from Microsoft. Through a process of trial and error the optimum settings for the screen captures was discovered. It was found that by using the screen capture codec under the downloadable file setting we were able to produce a clear capture of the screen. A standard PC mic was used for real time audio annotation during the process. We also found that capturing at a lower screen resolution then displaying the file at a higher screen resolution also increased the quality of the resulting process capture. Please contact Anthony Liccardi for further details and support for screen capture video applications.
