2005-2006 Faculty Leave - Kim Tritt, Professor of Dance
Portions of Ms. Tritt's leave were spent in Ohio, New York City, and
Honolulu where she conducted research for a writing project about
dancer, choreographer, and educator, Gladys Bailin. Her paper,
Gladys Bailin: Evolving the Nikolais Tradition was accepted for
presentation at the November 2006 Congress on Research in Dance
Conference in Tempe, Arizona. She was invited to present another paper,
The Professional Life and Work of Gladys Bailin and teach a
workshop, A Non-Violent Approach to Stage Combat at the OhioDance
Festival in Dayton, Ohio. During a residency at the University of
Hawaii she served as guest lecturer in the graduate course, Graduate
Seminar in Dance Pedagogy and participated in range of dance
interests including research in various forms of dance in world
cultures, theater/dance workshops and attended non-western dance
performances. In addition to her dance experiences at the university she
studied hula at Halau Hula ka No'eau. She also traveled to China and
attended traditional Beijing Opera (Jinju) and contemporary dance
performances. On Friday, December 9, 2005, the
Department of Theatre faculty, staff, students, emeritus, and
administrators gathered together to commemorate the renovation of our
performance studio. Thanks to the generosity of James N. Wise ('41), the
Wise Studio provides a professional space for our acting and directing
classes, a dance floor for rehearsal, as well as a digital media lab for
our growing emphasis on digital film production for the actor and
director. Click here for pictures and the
