TEACHING PEACE PROJECT
The Teaching Peace Project, is the locally-focused peace education initiative of our church’s overall peace mission. The Teaching Peace Project includes:
As of January 2008, the scholarship program has retained two of the three students who started their first year at the Montessori School of Wooster in the Fall of 2007. A report of the status and progress of these students can be obtained from either Sue Brown, Church Secretary, or David Gillespie, Teaching Peace Project Coordinator.
The Teaching Peace Project is currently in its second Peacemaking-themed, Christian education series. The first series, in October 2007, focused on methods and techniques of Conflict Resolution. The current series’ theme is “Peacemaking in the Home and Family.” The Church Partnership Mission Project and the Teaching Peace Project are discussing a possible jointly sponsored series for the near-future.
Correspondence with the Director (and other staff members) of the Al Rowwad Theatre and Culture Center in the Aida Refugee Camp, in Bethlehem, has been established, as a first step in planning and executing test calls using basic videoconferencing technology. The objective is to have interactive video links between children (and adults) in Wooster and children in the Occupied Territories. In addition to the Aida Refugee Camp, similar links are planned within a six-month time-frame with members of St. George Melkite Church in Zababdeh, West Bank.
