Women's Studies at Wooster


Program Objectives

Women's Studies is an interdisciplinary area of study based on feminist scholarship both within traditional disciplines and in response to questions that cannot be answered within the framework of a single discipline. It attempts to examine previously unavailable information about the lives and contributions of women, and to understand the impact of cultural attitudes and social structures on women's experiences. Women's Studies recognizes the importance of gender as a category of analysis in the construction of knowledge, and it seeks to explore the diversity of women's experiences across race, culture and class. Each course in the program addresses these issues from a feminist perspective and emphasizes the connection between theoretical and experiential understanding.
