The College of Wooster Highland Dancers consists of both experienced dancers and those who have learned Scottish dancing while attending The College of Wooster. There are three separate groups that perform throughout the year: the Marching Band Dancers, Symphonic Band Dancers, and Concert Band Dancers. During the marching band season the dancers perform at every football halftime show and occasionally at special performances throughout the semester. This group is typically larger and open to the campus community. The Symphonic Band Dancers are only chosen by audition and usually consist of approximately four dancers. The Symphonic Band has the opportunity to travel and to perform in a variety of locations and venues. At this time the dancers experiment with different forms of Scottish dance, such as Cape Breton Step Dancing and various choreographies.
During the second semester of the school year students are given the chance to learn how to Scottish Highland Dance. Lessons will be given and those who participate will have the opportunity to try out for the Marching Band season. All groups are student directed and are considered to be a part of the Scot Band. Every member brings a different personality and personal input to the group, which makes this program a valuable asset to the campus community where it is a pleasure to be a part of the heritage and history of The College of Wooster.
