While the actual act of conducting a successful tutorial is one of the best ways to learn about tutoring, here are some helpful resources to peruse if you're looking for information on effective tutoring practices, for a new way of doing things, or simply for some solidarity and humor regarding the experience. These links each open in a new window.
- Writing Center Work Report
- Writing Center Chemistry Work Report (to be used by Chemistry tutors only!)
All work reports should be filled out using this convenient online form. Instructions are to the side and if you've any questions or confusion, please email or call Debbie!
- Tutor Training Handbook
This link leads to the College of Wooster Writing Center's peer tutor training handbook. Please read and familiarize yourself with the Writing Center's practices and policies.
- The Dangling Modifier
The Dangling Modifier is a free, online newsletter designed specifically with peer writing tutors in mind. It includes informative articles for tutors, engaging editorials, and an ongoing international discussion among peer writing tutors. It's a fast, easy, entertaining way of keeping abreast of the writing center writ large.
- Praxis: A Writing Center Journal
Based out of the University of Texas at Austin, Praxis is a brilliant resource for anyone in the writing center sphere. The site is bright and easy to read (a plus!) and features insightful articles written by tutors, consultants, and directors of centers around the country. A wide range of issues and topics relevant to writing center work are discussed here and the site provides excellent insight into the ever-growing professional world in which we move.
- PeerCentered Blog
"Peer Centered is a space for peer writing tutors/consultants or anyone interested in writing centers to blog with their colleagues from around the world. Since many writing centers already keep their own shared journals, we think this is a good way to promote/explore writing center work. Bloggers here will share their ideas, experiences, or insight. If you work in the writing center and want to join the blog, contact Clint at Clint.Gardner@slcc.edu."
- The official website of the NCPTW
The National Conference on Peer Tutoring in Writing website shares information about upcoming and past conferences, unique perspectives on tutoring, and provides a place for tutors to talk about effective tutoring strategies.
