Prior to Wooster, what other types of work, or places, have you been involved with?

I took a rather unusual route to The College of Wooster. Most recently, as the assistant for the Office of Cancer Disparities Research at Case Western Reserve University. Before that, I worked as an assistant in the project management department for a Cleveland based engineering firm. However, most of my career I spent as a professional musician and teacher utilizing my Oberlin College and Conservatory degree in violin performance.

Where did you grow up?

My early years were in the Minneapolis/St. Paul area as well as a small town up on the iron range of northern Minnesota. During my teenage years, my family moved to northern Michigan where I had the privilege of graduating from the Interlochen Arts Academy, world-renowned high school for the performing arts.

What inspires you about working with Wooster students? What is your favorite part of your job?

I love the creativity and diversity of the Wooster students. The excitement they bring to campus and the opportunities to learn with them and from them are endless.

My job is one of organization and details through administrative support. What I enjoy most is the behind the scenes work I do, allows my team to focus on what’s most important, Wooster students.

What hobbies or interest would your colleagues find surprising about you?

I’m a history buff. If I hadn’t gone to college for music, it would have been for history. I enjoy learning all kinds of history from American to European to Russian, medieval to modern.

Share your favorite book, movie and musician.

I really enjoy audio books as I spend 90 minutes commuting back and forth from campus each day. My favorites in the past year have been biographies like “The Wright Brothers” by David McCullough and Stephen Hawking’s last book “Brief Answers to the Big Questions”.

My taste in movies are eclectic. One night it could be a monster flick (Jurassic) followed by a more artistic flare (Phantom Thread) followed by a blockbuster (Star Wars).

My playlists are just as varied: working out to Thomas Bergersen or passing a long afternoon with Coldplay, jazz by Yoko Miwa, or Earth, Wind & Fire.  Classical music will always hold a special place in my heart especially music of Brahms or my favorite violinist, James Ehnes.

Tell us about any important people or creatures in your life.

Life with my 2 sons is never boring. Christopher is enjoying his studies in philosophy at Kent State University, his brother Ephrem is in high school aspiring to be a world-class tuba player. I’m fortunate to have my father, Keith, an avid nature photographer living with me. Lastly, I am most grateful to have my husband and best friend, Ron, along for the ride.
