Dr. Ivonne M. García is the inaugural Chief Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Officer at The College of Wooster. She joined Wooster in June 2019.

As a member of the president’s cabinet and the college’s senior leadership team, Dr. García works closely with President Sarah R. Bolton to build and enact a vision for a diverse, equitable and inclusive community at Wooster. She is charged with leading the college in realizing its commitments to become more diverse, and to create a truly welcoming, equitable and inclusive campus culture.

Previously, she worked for 13 years at Kenyon College, where she was a Marilyn Yarbrough Dissertation Fellow, founding faculty and co-director of the Kenyon Educational Enrichment Program (KEEP) for underrepresented students, the first Associate Provost for Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion, Associate Provost for faculty development and mentoring, and a founding faculty member of the Latinx Studies Concentration. She also received the Trustee’s Teaching Excellence Award and a one-year Whiting Research Fellowship for Teaching Excellence. Also at Kenyon College, she taught courses in U.S. horror, literary journalism, and Latinx/Latin American literature and film, and served as advisor to Adelante, the Latinx-student organization, and The Collegian, the student newspaper on campus.

Dr. García is the author of Gothic Geoculture: Nineteenth Century Representations of Cuba in the Transamerican Imaginary, and holds a bachelor’s degree in History and Literature of Latin American from Harvard/Radcliffe College, a master’s in Education Administration, Planning, and Social Policy from the Harvard Graduate School of Education, and a master’s and doctorate in English from The Ohio State University.
