Shadra “Dean Smith” joined Wooster as an Assistant Dean of Students, Director of Multicultural Student Affairs, in July 2015. She has served in the role of Associate Dean of the Center for Diversity & Inclusion (CDI) since it’s revision in Summer of 2017. Originally from Fort Wayne, IN., Dean Smith has professionally worked in higher education for over 10 years and has had past work experiences in residence life, student activities/leadership, greek life, academic support and her passion, diversity & inclusion.
Her work within CDI includes managing the center and supporting the directors of the various branches, partnering with departments across campus and organizations within the growing Wooster city community. Dean Smith also ensures CDI’s mission/learning goals are consistently aligned with the institutional diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI) strategic plan. Advocating for students to have the best experience at the College of Wooster, celebrate their diverse individuality, all while learning about their fellow Scots through co-curricular engagement opportunities is what Dean Smith strives to accomplish each day.
Dean Smith resides in Wooster with her awesome artistic 6 year old son, her pony-tail wearing shih tzu Miko, and snuggly 18 lb cat Zeus. She enjoys visiting family, reading, and trying new ways to brew coffee.
