College of Wooster’s Jazz Ensembles to Perform Jan. 31 with Xavier Breaker Trio

Two College of Wooster Jazz ensembles will join forces with the Xavier Breaker Trio Friday, Jan. 31, 7:30 p.m. on campus at McGaw Chapel, 340 E. University St.

Under the direction of Jeffrey Lindberg, conductor and professor of music, and instructor Greg Slawson, the 8:00 O'Clock and 12 O'Clock Combos will perform with drummer Xavier Breaker, pianist Stuart Mindeman, and bassist Andrew Vogt. Xavier, founder of both the Xavier Breaker Trio and the Xavier Breaker Coalition, is a Chicago-based composer, musician, and arranger, who has been praised for his versatility and sensitivity to diverse musical genre.

The concert will include "Flight of The Foo Birds" by Neal Hefti; "La Fiesta" by Chick Corea, "Corner Pocket" by Freddie Green, and "Moontrane" by Woody Shaw. The evening also marks the debut of Wooster first year student vocalist Thea Kwan '17 who will sing Duke Ellington's "I Like The Sunrise" and Marvin Fisher's "Destination Moon."

Tickets are $5.00 (free for College of Wooster students, faculty, and staff), and may be purchased at the Florence Wilson Bookstore on campus, the Wooster Book Company downtown, Buehler's Towne Market, and at the door.
