Africana Studies Lecture to feature Edward Gilbert
Attorney and Wooster Alumus to speak on April 25 at The College of Wooster
WOOSTER, Ohio – Edward Gilbert, an attorney and alumnus of The College of Wooster, will present “The Special Challenges of African American in White Institution” on Monday, April 25, in Lean Lecture Room of Wishart Hall (303 E. University St.). The lecture, which is free and open to the public, begins at 6 p.m. and will be followed by a book signing.
After obtaining his B.A. from Wooster, Gilbert received his J.D from the University of Akron School of Law. He currently runs his own law firm, Edward L. Gilbert Co., LPA, concentrating in civil rights and employment law. He is also the author of Swallowing Nickels: A Memoir of a Welfare Child. He was appointed by the Ohio General Assembly as a distinguished member of the Ohio Constitutional Modernization Commission and currently serves on the Liaison with Public Offices Committee. He was also elected president of the Akron/Canton Barristers Association, a group of predominantly African-American judges and attorneys.
