U.S. News Again Gives Nod to Wooster for Top Mentored Research Programs, Most International Students

First among state peers in international students and a leader in undergraduate teaching
WOOSTER, Ohio – The College of Wooster once again finds itself in the U.S. News & World Report “Best Colleges 2021” guidebook, listed as the only National Liberal Arts College, alongside Ivy League member Princeton and other major national research universities, to rank in the Top 15 for best senior capstone and undergraduate research/creative projects, and as the most international school in Ohio. The latest edition of the highly-respected college rankings were released Monday.
Wooster ranks No. 6 in the nation in the senior capstone category, known affectionately on campus as I.S. (Independent Study), and No. 14 in undergraduate research/creative projects.
This Wooster-Princeton connection is nothing new. Since 2002, U.S. News’s editors have surveyed college presidents, chief academic officers, and deans of admissions to nominate institutions with stellar examples of each program, and this marks the 19th consecutive year they’ve been ranked in both of those categories, a declaration that no other school can make.
“Every Wooster student creates new knowledge as part of our signature mentored research program, and the latest recognition from U.S. News demonstrates this model of providing dedicated opportunities to all students, not just a select few, is respected by leaders at colleges across the country,” said Sarah Bolton, president of Wooster. “It’s just one of the many things that set a Wooster education apart. I thank our faculty and staff for their deep dedication to fostering a diverse and inclusive community of learners and an excellent educational experience for each and every Wooster student.”
Wooster excelled in several other categories as well, including top placements among national liberal arts colleges – No. 16 in “Best Undergraduate Teaching” and “Most International Students.” Wooster continues to remain the most international college in Ohio.
Also of note, Wooster remains on the list of the “Most Innovative Schools” at number 42, defined as those making the most innovative improvements in terms of curriculum, faculty, students, campus life, technology, or facilities, ranks 75th in “Best Value Schools,” and 108th among “Top Performers on Social Mobility,” which measures how well schools graduated students who received federal Pell Grants.
Overall, Wooster ranks 69th among the 223 national liberal arts colleges.
