Passports & Visas

Everyone traveling abroad will need a passport. If you don’t have one, apply for one today! It can take up to 4-6 weeks to receive your passport, so don’t leave this until the last minute.

The U.S. Department of State has instructions on how to apply for a passport, the forms you will need to complete, and a list of required documents. Passport pictures can be taken at several of the chain pharmacies, at Wal-Mart, and at the U.S. Post Office.

If you already have a passport, please verify that the expiration date is more than six months after the end date of your program. You could be denied entry into your host country if your passport expires too soon!

Depending on where your passport is from, and in which country you will be studying, you may need a visa to indicate that you are authorized to study in your host country. Your program provider will give you more information on your host country’s requirements. You can visit the Embassy or Consulate website of your host country to learn about the visa application process. Typically, you cannot apply for a visa more than 90 days before your departure.
