Service Projects

For the second year running, The College of Wooster has proudly partnered with Project Linus and the United Way of Wayne & Holmes Counties to bring together both on-campus and off-campus service opportunities for the entire Wooster community.
MLK Day of Service kicks off with Flex for Good, which is sponsored by Wooster Volunteer Network, Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC), and United Way. This campaign takes students’ left over FLEX dollars and allows them to buy healthy snacks and hygiene items in the C-Store in December (leave them in the bins outside the C-Store). Students, staff, and Faculty can purchase/donate healthy snacks and hygiene items from the C-Store at The College of Wooster, or bring items in to donate.  Then, these items will be sorted and distributed on MLK Day as an on-campus service project.
Sign up for this fun, fast-paced on-campus experience.

Another on-campus opportunity will include the creation of Hygiene Kits, which will include personalized notes for the United Way’s 10K Acts of Kindness initiative.  Sign up! The College of Wooster is proud to have been a contributor to this cause for multiple years.
The College of Wooster received a grant of $1000 from ServeOhio (Ohio Commission on Service and Volunteerism) to support the creation of hygiene kits in 2017.

Project LinusProject Linus, a non-profit organization that provides homemade blankets to children in need, lovingly hand makes blankets by adults and children from all walks of life. You can help make blankets as part of your MLK Day of Service experience without leaving campus, as Project Linus is another on-campus experience during MLK Day of Service. Sign up! Due to space and material constraints, you must sign up for this project in advance.

United WayOff-campus opportunities for service are coordinated by our local United Way, of which The College of Wooster has long been a proud partner. For the 2017 MLK DAY of Service, we are working with the following agencies: Viola Startzman Clinic, Wee Care Learning Center, Local Roots, Holly House, Salvation Army of Wooster, OneEighty, People to People, Wooster Community Hospital, Habitat for Humanity’s ReStore, Brookdale Senior Center, Friendtique, Learn ‘N Play, YMCA, Danbury Woods Senior Center, and more.
Be sure to sign up for these events. Places go very quickly, so be sure to sign up as soon as possible.

SIGN UP for 2017 service opportunities with United Way.

Did you forget to sign up? We will have limited spaces available on January 16th for the sorting of Flex for Good items and also for the Hygiene Kits (personal notes) projects.  All other projects require sign up in advance.
